Trinity’s AMA Chapter Takes Home 1st Place In Marketing Competition
Trinity students competed against students from local universities to create a “Campaign in a Day”

The American Marketing Association (AMA) San Antonio Chapter put on the first-ever “Campaign in a Day” competition held on Saturday, March 2, at Texas A&M University-San Antonio, where our Trinity AMA team took home first place. The team consisted of Kathryn Detweiler ’25, Marissa Drange ’26, and Anna McCormack ’26. Our Tigers competed against five stellar teams from the University of Texas at San Antonio, St. Mary’s University, the University of the Incarnate Word, and Texas A&M University-San Antonio. The competition involved each team partnering up with five advertising agencies in the San Antonio area to create a promotional campaign showcasing the local nonprofit organization Meals on Wheels. Our Trinity team partnered with Helen Thompson Media.

Hear from the Trinity team members about their takeaways from the competition:

“I feel very appreciative to have participated in this AMA event,” Detweiler says. “Our production of the winning campaign was a great testament to our hard work and dedication in the classroom. We got to showcase this not only to the client but also to the accomplished professionals we worked alongside, Helen Thompson Media. It was a great networking and collaboration experience that I will bring back to our Trinity chapter AM.”

Detweiler is a marketing major with a minor in sports management from Goshen, Indiana. Along with being an active member of AMA, she is also a member of Trinity’s volleyball team and an intern with Trinity’s Office of Strategic Communications and Marketing.

“I am very grateful for the opportunity to compete in the first-ever ‘Campaign in a Day’ event. This experience provided an insightful look into how the elements of marketing that we learn in the classroom transpire into a marketing career post-graduation,” Drange says. “I am thankful for the amazing relationships that we were able to establish with Helen Thompson Media, as well as the board members of AMA San Antonio. I look forward to defending our trophy in the competition next year!”

Drange is a marketing major with a minor in sport management from Boerne, Texas. She is an active member of AMA, as well as Omicron Delta Kappa, and Trinity Volleyball.

“My biggest takeaway was being able to work with and learn from a real marketing firm when making a marketing plan,” McCormack says. “I learned a lot about the process. I typically would have jumped straight to the creative aspects, but they showed us how to break down the components of creation. We started with brainstorming ideas, and then organizing the best ideas into plans of action. Finally, we incorporated the creative and visual bits at the end.”

McCormack is a marketing and Spanish double major from Sugar Land, Texas. She is involved in leadership for organizations on campus like Chi Beta Epsilon, Delta Sigma Pi, and AMA.

Overall, the student team is appreciative of the opportunities that the Trinity AMA chapter provides. They view it as a great University resource that allows all business majors to gain knowledge and experience from professionals and peers.
